You could do in-school field trips. Do you have any topics that are of special interest to you or skills you could teach to preschoolers? I am doing science workshops for preschoolers. I find that preschool teachers are really in need of this kind of thing as it spares them the cost and difficulty of transporting children on field trips.
I’ve developed kits on feeding birds, migration/nesting, dinosaurs, and animal adaptations. (I also do kindergarten and have developed the workshops to meet their curriculum requirements.)
It’s great as I can set my own hours/days I’m available and only work during school hours while my dd is in school.

When my children were preschoolers I opened a creative art school in y home. I did not want to be tied down to a day care day and found that parents would pay to have their children do entirely developmentally appropriate art work, no dittoes, no models in my home. The children enrolled in a weekly 1 1/2 hour session. At first they paid in advanced for ten sessions, but I found parents were bringing me sick children. I then had them pay as they attended. It worked out better for me because my children were getting sick form the sick children in class. I had some mixed groups 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 and had no more than 10 children at a time. With 2-3 year olds I had only five children. I did it for four years and it simply grew too big for my home. At that point I went back into a traditonal school setting

Question–: Early Childhood Education Major and I need help teaching my first graders better handwriting?
I am observing in a first grade classroom this semester and we have to do a research project on something in the classroom that need improvement. Several of the students need help, they write letters beckwards, they are not proper size (all to big, none to small), some erase letter 5-6 times.
Can anybody give me advice or ideas for how to go about doing this? I biggest problem I have in doing this project is that I am only in the field for 14 more days. I know the first day I will have them write a sample (so i have something to compare to), I was gonna have them write the alphabet and numbers, then have them write a couple of short sentences cause I want to help with their word spacing as well. The other problem I have is that I will only have about 20 minutes in the classroom each day to work with them. I put in a few days of review where I will have them do the alphabet, numbers, and paragraph again.
Please help me, what would you do?

they have new writing books at wal-mart that the pages are actually dented in where the letters are to help them stay within the lines and stay true to the form of the letter

You are on the right track getting the sample to begin with – That will be day one…
Days 2 – 6
Find some of those worksheets where you have the sentence above and you copy it below on lines. I will see if I can include a link. Have the kids trace the sentence then write it themselves below. Lots and lots of practice.
Days 7-12
Now let the kids hand write stuff – Let the write stories or something then bring to you for critique. If you see a kid that is still writing pretty bad, send him/her back to the worksheets.
Day 13
Have them write samples again – the alphabet, etc.
Day 14
Hand back the before and after and discuss with the kids.
