Question: Did your baby actually fit newborn clothes?

I’m 7mnths pregnant and started putting my babies clothes in her draws. I noticed that 98% of the onesies are newborn size..So im a little worried cause I know everyone says to buy clothes bigger BUT aren’t newborn sizes up to 8pds? And they make newborn n 3mnth sizes for a reason, right? So did your baby wear newborns at all or even at least one month???

I actually wondered this same thing. They looked so incredibly small. To my surprise, she was even smaller. They were quite big on her for some time.

Depends on how big your baby is really. Honestly, most of your 0-3 months are going to look huge on her for awhile. (unless you have a larger baby like my friend whose smallest baby was 9lbs 4 oz and used her newborn clothes for about a week!!) My babies were average size (7lbs 7oz) and even the newborn clothes were a little big on them at first and they were able to wear them for a couple of months.

It all depends on how big your baby is. I didn’t bother buying newborn clothing for my son I figured it was a waste of money because they grow out of it so fast. I did have a few pairs of newborn sized pjs that fit him really good though but like I said that was only for a short amount of time

My son was in newborn sizes until he was a month old. They probably still fit him after that, but i didn’t have very many. They make onesies in 0-3 month sizes and those fit him until… well… they still fit him and he’s 7 months now. lol. He’s a little small, and weighed 7 pounds at birth, so go by what your doctor says they should weigh. Mine were pretty accurate.

My son was 7 pounds 4 ounces and we actually had to go out and buy him some smaller clothes for the first couple weeks. He was just swimming in the up to 3 month size.

My baby was 10lbs 3oz and 22 1/2 inches long. Onsies and outfits w/out feet that were newborn sized fit him perfectly and he was huge. It was the sleepers and one piece outfits w/feet that I had problems with because he was too long for them. He’s almost 3 months and I can still put newborn onsies and 0-3 month onsies on him and hes 13lbs 13oz now. Newborn sized onsies usually will fit no matter what. It’s the length that would make a baby not fit certain clothes.

No. My son never fit newborn clothing and only fit the newborn diapers for about a week.

All newborn sized items were a waste of money in my case. But I was told during the ultrasound my child was going to be larger. At 36 weeks his leg bone was measuring to the size of a 40 week 2 day baby, and his head was measuring to about the same and his estimated birth weight was going to be around 9 lbs which was almost dead on.

Have you had a size estimate ultrasound?

My baby girl was born December 8,2009. She weighed in at 7lbs 8oz 19inches long. Her newborn stuff lasted about a week to 2 weeks. I guess it just depends on your baby. my baby has a long torso so her onesies especially got small really quick. but i suggest taking some of the stuff back and getting some 0-3 months. because they grow so fast.

My baby was born 7lbs 5oz and she fit perfectly into newborn clothing, although in Australia it might be different and is called 0000. She is 6weeks on Friday and can still fit in her short sleeved newborn clothing, but most long sleeved stuff is to short for her legs, although she is quite a long bub. 000 fits her ok at the moment. I do not think she will be fitting into any newborn sizes for much longer.

Congrats and best wishes for the birth!!!

  1. Barely……but my daughter was 9 lbs 6 oz at birth (just under 9 lbs when we left the hospital). The newborn clothing fit her but only for like 2 weeks. The outfit I brought her home in was a 0-3 month one.

  2. my son wore newborn onesies until he was about two months old and he weigh 7lbs. 3oz and was 20 in, now my sister had a baby Jan. ‘09 and weigh 7lbs 19in and he wore his for about two weeks. so it depends on how fast your baby grows.
