Using tap water to make baby formula may seem like a pretty normal thing to do, after all, many of us do, but research now shows us the many potential and very real threats we could be exposing our children to.

Studies have shown that there are over 2000 toxins in our drinking water, including herbicides, prescription drugs and heavy metals. All of these are known to cause cancer, and it’s getting worse as the treatment plants fail to cope with the amount of chemicals that are getting into the system.

The problem with using tap water to make baby formula is that the toxic effect is greatly amplified due to the baby’s undeveloped immune system. Studies have shown that these contaminants can lead to learning disorders and leukemia later in life.

A recent report by the Environmental Working Group, called “Into the Mouths of Babes”, found that of 29 mid western cities tested, all had at least one agricultural chemical present in a single glass of water, and most had five or more! The report also states that 45,000 mothers in these 29 cities were unwittingly making baby formula using tap water containing three or more toxic chemicals.

So the potential to do harm is there if you are using tap water to make baby formula, so the best method of protection is a home water filtration system.

Forget the pitcher style products as they are the least effective and most costly due to their size, and do not get rid of the dangerous toxins.

Look for ones called carbon block filters using a multi-stage process for the best results. An ion exchange component is also very beneficial and good systems will remove over 99% of all contaminants.

It is a shame we live in times where we cannot trust our drinking water, especially where babies are concerned, so we must help to ensure their health by not using tap water to make baby formula, only proper filtered water.
