The idea for this green smoothie comes from the amazing Sarma of oneluckyduck.com. I recently purchased her book Living Raw Food and am loving it. While some of the recipes can be complex, she has many that can be made in minutes.
This Ginger Cilantro Shake is a hybrid of her Cilantro-Pineapple Shake and her Bangkok Baby. Here is my version, a nice healthy green drink for Saint Patrick’s day.
!!Reminded :Make play-time green-time with greener toys,Get back to basics and try old fashioned wooden toys and organic cotton or homemade teddies. Because babies put most things in their mouths,go as natural as possible. I Ate Rubber

Last Week: Sammy Davis Jr. Jr. was one of our fattest males at approximately 2 3/4 lbs. He’s a year old, turned one on the 4th but we have not celebrated his birthday yet.
Nov 9th: Sammy began looking thin to me. Mike said he was losing his baby fat. His other brother lost there fat around his age but it was gradual. Something looked wrong with Samson.
Nov 10th: Sammy was put in the isolation cage to monitor the amount of food he was taking and waste producing.
Nov 11th: In the 14 hours in the isolation cage, Sammy did not drink or eat another, nor did he poop or pee. I gave him one of his favor peanut butter Marshalls treat and he walked around for a few minutes. I put him back in his cage to use the potty since Sammy has a poor record of using his litter box. He began to vomit up his treat.
I called his vet and started him on Pedialyte. They x-rayed him and found nothing. He was down to 2lbs. He was started on .1cc of Baytril for a possible infection. I was told to wait two days on the antibiotics. That night I feed him by hand Pedialyte and Duk Soup.
Obstruction was an option but unlikely since Sammy had too much energy, so the vet said.
Nov 12th: Pedialyte and Duk Soup threwout the day along with his Baytril. At lunch time he threw up his Duk Soup. I bought him human chicken baby food. He seems to like the taste better and it gave him a little more energy.
Nov 13th: Energy decreased significantly, losing more weight also. Vet called to see how he was doing. He recommended Sammy going to another Vet an hour away for blood work. I called up and they wore book for the rest of the day. I knew Sammy was going down hill quick.
I asked another ferret owner which vet they use. I called up and made an appointment in a few hours.
He was 1.75lbs and 96 degrees F when I got him there. He lost about a pound in a week. The vet told me it could be anything. He is a power chewer. She told me the nearest vet with an ultrasound machine was an hour away. Ether I could go there or she could do an exploratory surgery there. There were risks, due to his size and sever dehydration he was critical and might not survive surgery. Plus the price. I signed the papers and handed him over. I knew I could not live with myself if I didn’t do all I could to save this one year old ferret. He was in surgery in 30 minutes.
He ate a rubber object. The vet is surprised he ate it since it was large and it would have been hard to get down his throat. It doesn’t look like a toy so unsure what it could have been.
If Sammy makes it threw the first 24 hours then he has a pretty good chance.
Nov 14th: Sammy survived though the night. Three big humps to get Sammy over though.
Number One: Pancreatitis – The surgery was close to his pancreas and there is concern the fluids from the pancreas will leak out and dissolve his organs.
Number Two: The site between stomach and small intestine where the object was found is bruised, thin and hard to repair in surgery. Unsure if it will hold up and pass food.
Number Three: Possible Kidneys have already shut down from server dehydration. Pedialyte I gave him never made it to the intestine to be absorbed since the object was blocking it.
He began to pee letting us know the kidney are working. He also began drinking on his own.
I went to visit him. The vet has him on Ensure. I feed him and he went poop for the first time.
Jan 19th: I just wanted to update everyone on Sammy. He is doing well but not great. He took half his stitches out on his own about a week after his surgery. I bought him to the vet and since he was doing so well they took the rest out five days early. His fur has grown back so you really can’t even tell he had a surgery. He’s currently 14 months old. A few things that worry me though.
He’s eating his EVO kibble all by himself yet he is still really skinny. Also he doesn’t have the energy of a one year old ferret. I started him on FerretVite a couple weeks ago and he has put a little weight on and has more energy.
I went on vacation a few weeks ago and left him with another ferret owner instead of my father like his older brothers and sisters. He needs to constantly be watched because I don’t trust him. He hasn’t learned from the experience at all.
Sammy is very weak in this photo and has a lot of pain meds in his body.

We’re trying to get Clara to eat sweet potatoes. Clara does not like the sweet potatoes so far. Some of the books we have suggest that it’s good developmentally to allow the child to play with her food to help her to get used to the texture and whatnot. I don’t much like
muck, so I decided to let David help Clara get to know her sweet potatoes. Lucky him.

I was interested to read that you are in Canada (I moved from Toronto to New Zealand in 1993). I just returned from a two-week trip to Toronto, where I was aware of logos that I hadn’t seen before. In Dunedin, New Zealand, where I live, We probably aren’t bombarded by ads and logos quite so much. Unless, of course, we spend a lot of time online.
Cheers,
Mark McGuire

Oh wow. You have an excellent collection of cook books. Whoa. I have one. The Joy of Cooking!
I have the most recent JoC, which I like, but I’d love to have one from 1940.
Same here. I feel like such a rebel, I have a hard hard time following recipes.
Hi, I’m an admin for a group called Ina Garten, and we’d love to have your photo added to the group.
Thanks xxxrmt! Added it.
"Nourishing Traditions" from Sally Fallon wod be a great addition to your library.

what you don’t see is the signed French Laundry I bought, took down to Napa and had signed while eating there! (you can see just an edge of it in the bottom left corner.
Hey, Ma! Look! I got glop all over me!
I’ve never been a fan of the food-smeared-on-face school of baby photography, but.
She is sweetness personified.
That gorgeous little girl could make anyone a fan of any school of photography for which she is a model.
An individualist already
