All of the books suggest waiting until a baby is six months old before introducing "solid" foods, but an exception to the rule says it’s OK to try them if a baby seems ready.

Rowan is just shy of the five-month mark, but judging by the look on his face, I’d say he’s ready. This was his first taste of rice cereal mixed with breast milk.

No fuss – great food. Family run place – popular with students, artists and journalists.

There’s only one or two reviews of this place on the Internet – and it should probably stay like that i suppose! It’s a bit away from the touristy centre – but only a shortish walk. A walk that takes you through some dodgy-looking streets – some without pavements on the side – which is a bit hazardous as some of them are a bit of a rat-run for speeding cars and motorbikes.

At first we couldn’t find the place – even though we were standing right outside it. It’s right next to a halal meat shop – and from the outside is basically just a big brown wooden door that looks all beaten up. The door has a small window in it which allows you to peek inside. We were in two minds about going in – it just didn’t feel right. You see, we had just walked past streets with rioting local kids, and also a concrete basketball court with the most amazing amount of graffiti that i have ever seen in my life. There were local youths who gave us all wierd stares. The girls wanted us to just get out of there. But I pushed the door and we all went it. What an amazing place – the inside was so welcoming. The blue chequered table cloth – and an old lady beckoned us in and announced my name! (I had booked in advance you see) – she showed us to our table – and she made herself busy – and for the rest of the lunch we were served by an old bloke – who was presumably her husband, as she went into the adjacent kitchen to cook. Whilst there we noticed quite a few local office-type workers coming in for lunch. Very unpretentious place (so unlike Set Portes the night before).

We had a few starter dishes – the broad bean thing again – and some more Catalan type dishes – e.g. fried flakes of artichoke, grilled asparagus with some kind of vinaigrette (very nice) and the best one was this deep fried spring onion in batter with a nice zesty sauce on top. We also had some local (non-San Miguel) beer – which tasted better than San Miguel. The kids had some pretty "kid safe" croquettes and frites. For main the grown-ups shared goats chops in batter and deep fried baby squid and octopus. This place specialises in fried variety of Catalan food – and I must say it was very nice – and extremely hospitable – despite the location.

Total price for the family came to €60 which I guess was quite pricy for a lunch, but we were fulfilled and in retrospect was very good value given what we’d had were speciality type dishes. We will definitely come here again.

Q&A–: Doing a “Storybook Tea” theme baby shower; need kid’s books with food in the title/story?
I’m planning a baby shower with a “Storybook Tea” theme and need kid’s books with food(s) in the title/story to coordiante with some of the food.

I’ve got:
Blueberries for Sal (blueberry scones)
“Lemony Snicket” (lemon tarts)
The Princess and the Pea (vegetable tray?)
Green Eggs and Ham (ham sandwiches)

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I used to love Bread and Jam for Frances (maybe some kind of bruschetta using jam).

I also really love The Very Hungry Caterpillar. He ate through alot of stuff, including a bunch of fruit. Perhaps a fruit tray?
