Sarah might be able to survive on cherries and cold cereal alone.

I think it is part of her disaster survival training. We’ve already got 12 months worth of decorative candles, about 10 bottles of something called de-ionizing conditioner for long hair, and about 25 packages of a particular type of soup mix. Surviving on cherries and cereal sounds like it fits in quite well with a post-apocalyptic Houston now that I think about it.

First time eating solid foods

Our pediatrician said that if Andy started eating more — and watching us eat a lot — that we might try rice cereal at three months. Today he ate everything Mama had to offer, and we only had one or two bottles in reserve in the refrigerator instead of the usual for or five. And he definitely watches with great interest while we eat. So we tried rice cereal for the first time. He probably consumed one teaspoon, but it sure was fun trying.

We think we’re going to wait a few months before trying this again: he got pretty crabby tonight and had that familiar colicky wail about him. And Dr. Sears says their digestive system isn’t ready for solids until about six months.

6 months young

17 1/2 lbs & 27 inches long

My little monkey was 6 months old on the 5th.
It feels like I’ve barely had time to catch my breath, let alone
take in the fact that he’s halfway to being a year old. I have
to say, this past few weeks have been my favorite thus far,
besides right after he was born & was so fresh & new.

He’s becoming SO animated. Lots of chattering & "talking"
& he even gabs to himself when we put him in bed for naps.
He grabs his feet like crazy, loves to chew on anything that
gets near his mouth & is really big on meal time. Besides
his four bottles a day he gets three meals, one of baby cereal
& the other two consist of a veggie & then a fruit for dessert.

He loves to be held, but has never been much of a "cuddler",
unless he’s tired & dopey, hehe. He’s starting to find laughter
infectious & he’s finally becoming ticklish. His favorite time of
day seems to be the morning, when he is lovey & content &
then gets a big surge of happy energy.

I feel so blessed to be experiencing every amazing first with
him…from smiling to rolling over, learning to sit up [which he's
now working on] & everything in between…the bond & journey
that parent & child go on together is indescribable…& beautiful.

[You can't really tell, but his shirt says "I love Mommy"...awwww!]

  1. cinco de kiddo

Okay, Missy. You totally have me hooked on these Bento box lunches. Every time I send my kids out the door with a plain ole’ bag full of pre-packaged junk, I have the healthy fresh goodness of your Bento boxes in the back of my mind. I want them so badly, I could just scream!

But for all of my family to have one, it will be almost $100 bucks. Ouch.

And now, you’re showing up with cute little bunnies and everything. And teeny tapatios in travel size bottles. You’re killing me!!

  2. *sympathetic face* I’m sorry… They do offer bulk rates, the more you buy the less they cost each… also, I’d do the math on bags, baggies, disposable items, and buying pre-packed individual items vs. bulk & permanent fixtures, you’d be surprised at the long-term difference!
Another idea is to start with one, or two (birthdays perhaps) and see about more from there!

I lingered around bento options quite a bit before jumping in… after weighing my needs, costs, etc. I found this to be my best choice & I don’t regret it for a second. (In fact, I got myself a big lot of used sets off ebay soon thereafter!)

  3. cinco de kiddo

Ooh, you’re so right about doing the math. I just have a lot of kids. :)

  4. Do you have a Walmart near you? They have lunch kits there from about $7 each which have a larger container and two small ones. Not as pretty as the laptop lunches, but holdes about the same amount and is environmentally friendly. I use mine on days I want to take more wet things and worry about leakage in the laptop lunch. I think it is the click and lock containers. $7 for a kit of three.

  5. I’m happy with my laptop lunches, thank you… also, I refuse to shop at Wal*Mart… in fact, I’m adamantly against supporting them!

    I know lots of bento-ers use lock n’ locks for make-shift bentos…
I think people have found them at Target as well.

Cinco de kiddo: the other thing to consider is, what is the health of your family worth? Sack-type lunches are so much healthier!

  7. that’s actually why I went for it with the Laptop Lunch System… I wanted to assure/inspire myself to think outside the pre-packaged stuff i usually took, not to mention the last-minute fast food runs! This makes me diversify fruits, veggies, meat/protien, dairy, and grain… all properly proportioned for maximum benefit. Factor in the accountability factor of flickr and friends and such, this was $ well spent IMHO!

  8. Cute rabbit!

Looks like it was a great lunch!

  9. @accasper: I *heart* these quesadillas, can’t wait to get back to TJ’s for more!

Adore the hippie look. Bare feet most of the time, long hair, and status of bra: doubtful. Hubbie will be along soon to see I’m not alone now. ;)
