Contact your neighborhood store and ask them what deal they can give you if you buy in bulk. sorry, I live in US so most of my bulk sources wouldn’t apply to someone in the UK.

buy baby food
!!Health tips :At about six months, babies starts to eat real food. Rice cereal and mushy veggies turn to combinations of fish, meat, eggs, legumes, and vegetables—yep
Q&A–: Are formula feeding mums more likely to buy jarred baby food?
And are breastfeeding mums more likely to make their own?
In my circle of friends (In the REAL world not Y!A haha) – that statement seems to be pretty accurate. Most of my formula feeding friends buy their baby food, whereas the breastfeeders make theirs.
What do you think? What did you do? Thanks =]
** I should add not that there’s anything wrong with either – it’s just something that I noticed and I was wondering if it’s only in my social circle

I breastfeed and just broke down and bought jarred food. I really had all intentions on making her food, but it’s just too much for me right now. Between pumping constantly, working 10 hours a day, and taking care of her when I get home there isn’t much time. She’s getting the good stuff and just a bit of baby food for right now. In a few months she’ll be eating what I eat anyway so what’s a few jars of veggies and fruits?
I don’t think it’s relative to formula or breast.

Interesting observation- I agree.
Answer by rainwriterm
I haven’t noticed any particular trends either way in the people I know, and I haven’t found any research documenting it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not so.
I have noticed, however, that more breastfeeding moms are more likely to follow a baby-led approach to introducing solids rather than a parent-led approach.
For me, I formula fed and did baby-led weaning where we skipped baby food altogether.

I breastfed and formula fed, well he still has formula, and i buy jarred food, and almost everyone i know whether they formula or breastfeed seem to buy jarred food, lol so for me it’s not true, but it could be more likely that breastfed moms would make there own, lol but i dunno for sure.
Answer by echuca03
I dried up pretty quickly in terms of milk but there’s never been anything wrong with my two hands so I made baby-food myself.
Answer by Mallory is 10 week old
I am breastfeeding and be buying jar of food because I don’t have time to make baby food. Trust me.. Being a single mom with two older children and my baby keeps me to busy to do anything.
Answer by Noah’s Mommy & Marine Wife.
I think it depends on each person and their situation, really.
I formula feed my son but made his food after a couple weeks of jarred foods. It was fun and less expensive. He was then on “table foods” at 7 months.
I’ve seen many breastfeeders on this site refer to buying jarred food(as well as formula feeders).
I think it really comes down to if you have the time and “energy” to make your own food, not where your baby’s ‘milk’ comes from.
Answer by Fajina Stinx
Well obviously breastfeeding mamies make their own babies food.
Answer by Sarah e
I’m a breast feeding mom and don’t think I will be making my own. Does that make me a bad person. I was breast fed and fed jar food I’m ok.
So I do not agree

Interesting question.
I formula fed and I buy Heinz jarred food. Although I am looking into starting to make it myself. www.wholesomebabyfood.com is amazing.
However, my SIL breastfeeds ONLY and also buys her babys food in jars.

Nope, not in my social circle
However, the AP parents are more likely to breastfeed and make babyfood, while the non APer’s are more likely to be flexible on both
Interesting observation.
I breastfeed but I have bought a couple of jars, just like custard and the ones that have to fruit all ready cut up in them, its not being lazy its just convenience and easy to take when you go out. I never bought the mashed stuff in the jars, actually shes never had any mash, I never made any of that either she just decided when she wanted to eat, shes only been on foods for about a month anyway, she didnt really want any before that
I don’t think so – I nursed those boys for 1 year and 2 years, and we purchase a lot of canned food becuase I don’t have the time, energy or where withal to do it myself. Plus I have a 4 year old that has been eating pureed baby food mixed with baby cereal for over 3 years, he eats 2,000 calories a day – no freaking time for that (he has oral insensitivity issues)!
In general canned baby foods have no or little preservatives, of what do use is stuff that is good for the infant (like ascorbic acid, vit. C), no added salt unlike adult foods, keep for a long time (shelf life is often many years – because they’re canned), in properly packed portions so there is little to no waste. I also like to switch the foods around in one day, unlike most women who make their own foods who kind of stick to what they cooked up until it’s gone, ideally it will lead to a child with a more adventuresome palate. Sure some companies put sugar in their foods (Gerber), or market sugary puffs… but you can easily avoid that by reading labels.
Ideally we nurse our children until they have self weaned by eating regular food, some of us don’t have that option. Some of us understand biochemistry, food science, biology and nutrition and make the wisest choices we can given our limitations (allergic kids with texture issues).
I personally don’t think they are related. I know a lot of people who “mix and match” so to speak, including myself. I breastfeed and use jarred baby food. I have made my own by just using the little baby grinder and grinding up pre-seasoned food we were eating for dinner anyways or mashing up a banana in a pinch with a fork when I didn’t have a jar of food on hand but it’s not high on my list to make my own baby food. I just received from a friend a huge bag of organic baby food and I’m thrilled. My 10 month old son self feeds and is eating table food too but he still likes jarred baby food for now. He also still breastfeeds about every 2-3 hours still and I love that too. I have decided to do what works best for me and my baby although I do heed warnings and guidelines but I do realize they are guidelines and not laws. I think I’m doing a good job and I have a 4 year old to prove it too. LOL!
Yes i would say so.
It seems to be true within my circle of friends also. I think it may be because breastfeeders like to be ‘au naturale’, while formula feeders aren’t so big on that.
I breastfed my daughter until 6 months. (because of a serious illness she refused to latch for weeks). I have always made my daughters meals from fresh fruit and veggies. I just believed in doing things the way they would have been done without the use of technology, especially when you hear so many recalls on different foods, medicines etc…
Its scary feeding your child you have no idea what it has in it.
There is nothing wrong with whatever mothers choose to do, i think it is just depends on their beliefs and methods.
I think you’re right for the most part – although my first was formula fed (I struggled so much with breastfeeding) and I made all her baby food, and my second is both breast and bottle at the minute, and I’v started preparing food for her as she’ll be starting solids soon. I have definitely seen the pattern you mention in the group that I’m friendly with, although I’m not entirely sure why… maybe formula feeders are more about convenience? Maybe they’re more accepting towards preservatives etc in jarred foods because they’re using formula? It’s hard to say.
For me, I’m a breastfeeder at heart, but I’v had too many problems with it. I have used formula for both my kids and one of the ways of dispensing my guilt is to at least home make all of their food. But I don’t expect anyone else to feel the way I do, this is only my personal feelings about it.
I formula fed( almost done yay) but when Sarah started solids(baby food) I started with a few jars, but then I put my $80 Food processor to use and made her foods..fruits and veggies. By 8-9 months she started eating basically what we eat.
I have no problems with any parent that feeds their child jarred food at all…its whatever works best for that parent..I just enjoyed making sarah’s and its cheaper, had fun doing it and I had the time.
I formula feed, but make all of my daughters solid foods.
It’s all about education and knowledge.
Usually a tid bit of it inspires one to pursue it further, hence the correct observation you made.
I tried really hard to say that without offending anyone. Hope I didn’t
I am formula feeding and I will making my own. I understand where you are comming from, breastfeeding moms are more “organic” if that makes any sence and formula mothers are tagged as the ones who just go out and buy their babies food.
My sister breastfed and used mainly jarred food. I mainly formula feed and make baby food. I think how busy someone’s schedule is helps dictate which they decide. My sister has another young child and works part time, and I only have 1 child and go to school part time.
