For my twins I had a Maclaren Twin Traveller, and I LOVED it!! It can be used from birth to toddlers. It is easy to maneuver, and fits down any aisle/doorway I have been through. It is light weight and easy to get in and out of the car. It was also easy to clean!!

Honestly I have a double stroller and I find it a million times easier just to put the baby in a carrier.
I reclining umbrella stroller is another decent investment (you can get some relatively cheap like – ). As the baby can go in it if the toddler is walking and you don’t want to carry the baby. Then you can put the toddler in there and the baby in arms or in a carrier/sling when the toddler is tired.
Double strollers are really awkward and if you have the baby strapped in a stroller and the toddler wants to walk and then runs off… not good.

It depends. Do you want to use it for your newborn immediately?
Do you want a side-by-side model – fine in the ‘burbs where generous aisles are the norm – or do you live in an urban area where you’re better off with a tandem – one in front of the other, better for tight spaces?
Do you need something lightweight that you can lift and fold on your own?
Does your 1.5 y.o. still nap in the stroller, or is he usually alert?
If you’re in the ‘burbs, then there are some excellent double strollers that feature a side-by-side set-up. The Mountain Buggy Urban Double Jogger is a big favorite. It carries up to 120 pounds of kid and folds easily, so it may be your only stroller. And while it is wide, the wheels are super-swiveling, and you can take a tight corner. Plus, both seats recline, so if your firstborn is still napping on walks, this works. And you can buy a Graco or Peg Perego car seat adapter, so your newborn can be comfortably seated in it until she’s ready to ride in the regular seat.
For true city dwellers, I think the Phil & Ted’s stacking doubles are the way to go. It easily accommodates two children in no more space than a single stroller, and it still folds flat. Because your newborn can lie completely flat, you don’t need to attach a car seat. It’s pretty cool.
If you need something lightweight, then it gets a little trickier. The Maclaren umbrella strollers are very popular, and they do make double versions. There are many similar models out there, from lower-priced manufacturers, too – but unlike the Maclaren model below, they often can’t be used with newborns. (The seat needs to recline fully, and the straps need to be adjustable – really adjustable! – if they’re going to accommodate an 8-lb. baby as well as a 40-lb. toddler.)
A very popular option these days is the Joovy Caboose. We’re probably going with when our second arrives this fall. But our firstborn will be three. The Caboose concept is great because it allows your firstborn to sit or stand in the “caboose” in the back while the new baby rides in the conventional stroller in the front. (It also accommodates an infant car seat.) Like the Phil & Ted’s, it has a small footprint – and the Ultralight version is truly lightweight, coming in at just 21 pounds. The drawback is that an 18 m.o. might still want to doze in the stroller – that’s not possibly in the minimally constructed “caboose.”
So there’s a lot to consider … and no shortage of great stroller models out there. Happy shopping!
