Question–: Freeze ahead meals for when baby comes?
Hi! I’m 34 weeks pregnant and am looking for some quick and easy ideas for meals to freeze ahead for when our baby comes. So far I have white chicken chili and lasagna. (The lasagna itself can cover two-three meals) I figured I’d get bagged salad/bread to go with these. Does anyone have any suggestions for freeze ahead meals?? Thanks!

A good thing you can do instead of preparing whole meals, is to just cook and freeze meats. Things like chicken, hamburger and turkey all freeze well after cooking, and you could then add them into sauces or pasta and that way you will have fast, semi prepared meals that wont take alot out of you. You could also do this with veggies, just slice them up, blanche them and freeze them. You could throw dinner together in 5 minutes.

Apricot chicken
Quiche
Moussaka
Steak pie
Bacon and egg pie
Soup
Vegetable pie
Sweet and sour pork/chicken
Your favourite casseroles
Tuna mornay
Beef bourganion
Curry, (but not too hot in case it doesn’t agree with the baby)
Goulash

I’ve made a lot of these and just frozen them in the sized portions needed.

Cheesey Joes

Brown 1# hamburger– Drain–Add onion & cook soft–Add 1 can cheddar cheese soup & heat–Serve on toasted buns with salad & chips

Meatloaf–Make your favorite meatloaf recipe & freeze– when you are ready, stick it in to bake & add a couple baked potatoes–Make a jello salad

Chili–make your favorite chili , cook & freeze–when ready, stick it in the oven with a pan of packaged corn bread mix–add salad

Buy a bag of pre-made meatballs–toss in crockpot with a package of little smokies (which can also be frozen), a small jar of grape jelly & a bottle of BBQ sauce–Cover & cook low 6-8 hours–add a tube of canned biscuits & fruit salad

Meatballs can also be baked & heated in a pasta sauce for subs–Add onion, peppers, etc

Chicken rolls–Pound skinless, boneless breasts flat– freeze–when ready, thaw, then put a stick of string cheese on each–roll up & secure with toothpick–set in baking pan & pour pasta sauce over–spriinkle with grated parmesan–bake 45-60 min at 350–bake a panof scalloped potatoes at the same time

Hope these are of some help to you–congratulations on your coming baby & for planning ahead!!

Offer full fat products- whole milk yoghurt, butter, cheese etc. Make sure your child is getting enough milk. Breast or formula milk only. milk contains more calories than solids at this stage so is more important.

Of course an 8 month of can have yoghurt and cheese at 8 months old. Here in the UK it is actually recommended to give these at this age. Maybe the advice is different where you live but there is no reason at all not to give an 8 month old these things.

pasta rice avacado banana chese just adding butter to sandwiches and some to his cooking what we did with our son and it worked he sarted to gain weight

Answer by jlb
If he needs to gain weight, you should focus on his formula or breastmilk intake. That will have more calories and fat then any solids you could offer.

You can also offer foods with healthy fats like avocado or use olive oil to cook his meats and veggies.

Answer by Ellen
Breastmilk or formula is the most calorie and nutrient-dense food you can offer the baby, and should make up the majority of his diet for the first year. My guess is that in your excitement to offer the baby solids, you have been weaning him too quickly from his liquids feeds. I suggest you try offering to breastfeed or bottle feed more frequently.

Answer by Mama J.
I agree with giving him more formula or breast milk, but babies should not have yogurt, cheese or milk products until closer to one year old. You may want to talk to the doctor about changing his formula if he is formula fed. Some have more calories then others or the doc might want to keep the baby on the formula he’s on now but prepare it differently. If you are exclusively breastfeeding, you might want to think about supplementing or asking the doctor if you can pump but add in some formula to make your milk higher calorie. Offer many small meals, instead of 2-3 big ones. Avoid juice if you are giving it. Sweet potatoes, avocado, pears, meats, and oils will help him gain a bit of weight too.
