… and Arun is not pulling him out of his trousers.
This is about a month old. Nila wanted to call him Zenda but the park people decided to give him an imaginative name, ‘Rocky’
Wait till he grows; he will be 18 feet or so and can crush a goat. Rock pythons have heat sensors near the nostrils and use them to locate prey. They need to eat very rarely. One good meal can keep them going for weeks or months or even more.
Indian Rock Pythons are considered vulnerable and likely to become endangered due to loss of habitat and skin trade.

It’s simple. Get a calender or a chart.

I try to feed ’solids’ to my son at the same times I eat my normal meals. Any other time of the day, I feed him formula. You shouldn’t need to flavor any food that you prepare. Baby usually doesn’t care.
With amount, it varies greatly from baby to baby. He will make it clear when he’s had enough.
Answer by Jillian
start with one meal a day- i started with supper time and we all ate together- he will let you know when hes full- you shouldnt put salt into anything for baby because too much sodium isnt good a tall. you should wait at least 3 days before each new food so you know which one hes allergic too if he is
Answer by lynz
you should just feed when he is hungry
Answer by The One That Got Away
Make sure you get some veggies in there, or you’ll NEVER be able to get him to eat them. They usually LOVE green beans =)
At that age, twice a day is usually pretty standard. They’re REALLY soupy, so with a little time, mix some rice cereal in with it to beef it up a bit.
NO salt. It really isn’t necessary at this point. A lot of babies don’t like meat for a while, so don’t be surprised if he rejects it. A fed breakfast and dinner… it depends on your baby’s sleeping schedule. When he gets a little older, you can give him three meals a day. And, once he starts walking, he will probably need a snack or two in-between.
And, don’t make a fuss out of getting him to eat. If you keep on and on, trying to give him a bite when he REALLY doesn’t want one, it can cause problems every time you sit him down for a meal. He will eat if he is hungry…
Answer by Proud Mommy
Stick with the same food for 2-3 days (in case of allergy, you can decifer which food is the cause), It is recommended to start earlier in the day, that way if it upsets his belly, it will hopefully pass by bed time. If you prepare your own food, add NO seasoning whatsoever, Especially no salt. Good Luck and Happy Feeding!
Answer by Jane
Start with one food at a time. Won’t know that he’s being “cheated” of variety and it will help identify allergies. Try it around dinner time to start, he won’t need three meals a day. A tablespoon or so is sufficient to start. If you make food at home puree it with a little formula or breastmilk and there is no need to add salt or any other additive. He won’t know the difference. Try the first food for several days, then switch to another. After you’ve given him each food alone for several days, and he’s had no allergic reactions to either you can give them both at the same time, but when adding another food to baby’s diet watch for any new reactions.
Answer by humphrey
The only part I can help you with is that he shouldn’t have any spices. I think they’re okay after one year, but don’t quote me on that.
Answer by thisaintall07
We always gave our babies some cereal w/ some fruit in the a.m. about an hour after they had their first bottle in the morning. At around lunch time we gave them a veg. like squash or carrots. In the evening we would give them a veg and a little fruit. When we started out we stuck to the same fruit for about a week, same with the veg. because we wanted to watch for allergies. You want to make sure he is still getting enough formula or milk, don’t replace that with food. I made homemade baby food with my first child using a food processor. You should NOT add salt. After he is a little older ( After at least a year old)you can add some herbs or spices but he is too young right now. Use plenty of broth from the meat that you boil for him. You can freeze it too for future use. He doesn’t really care about food right now so you can go slow when introducing new ones and remember his tummy is not like ours so take your time to see how he reacts to each new food. It is so much fun when a baby starts eating solid food!! They are just so curious and cute!

oh look at that sweet soft fine beautiful hair
seems like he has figured out the feeding part
WOW! So you are saying that when he is older he can "get your goat." ***Groan*** Nice shot!
wow.
Oh… boy… is he your pet? Reminds me of Arunachalam Rajini who pulls out all these "jandhu’s" from his pockets!!!
Thanks Jimmy. He does not discriminate. Could be yours, mine or Al Gore’s; anything that comes within a handy distance.
Thanks Shiva.
Thanks vE. Yes, That boy Arun is my pet and you can see all his antics here!
Gorgeous snake. I’d love to feel its warmth and smooth scales.
tee hee
i am glad
your kids are so adventuresome and fearless. you have done well
the adage says that snake with triangular shaped heads are poisonous . . . this python seems to have a beautiful triangular shaped head . . . pythons can be lethal, but not poisonous . . . just a quandary
Agh !!!!! wasn’t better to invite ET at home ?
ah, i enjoy a good python.
Your photo really shows off this python well. I can see why there is trade in their skins. Lets hope the stay around to enjoy.
He’s a beauty!
Rocky looks great! Nice shot.
wow great photo.
"that boy Arun is my pet…"
haha you are such a great Father, or rather Owner
I remember they had a python at our school, when I was about 8 years old. That was a brilliant experience. I would love to do this, but know if I was confronted with the opportunity, I would definitely run away haha
Guess he is already practising on ARun (the crushing part, that is).
Do you have a snake around the house?
Great. This baby python sure has many admirers. I know some may only be curious onlookers.
My son Arun’s main job in the park is to help people see the beautiful and nice side of these animals – snakes, tortoises and crocodiles. Many who who touch a snake for the time are surprised that they are not slimy at all and very nice to touch. And seeing them handled by a pint sized boy also helps overcome the fear and possibly hate drilled into us without reason.
I sincerely thank all the visitors and the youngster would certainly be motivated and encouraged.
@kathy
Five of the six poisonous snakes in USA have triangular heads and hence the general warning in many US oriented sites/ books. There are exceptions even in the US. Rat snake for instance has a triangular head and it is not at all dangerous. Hence it is not a strict rule.
@sataosphere
Yes, even at this age he has quite a grip. But see this. And we do not have snakes at home.
@Aarthy
Pets need not be owned and it is also a term of endearment!
Looks really Cute.
beautiful snake!..interesting info!
Rajesh – I suppose you meant the snake and not Arun. He is not so fond of being called cute! Thanks.
Thanks CellarDoor.
It’s so beautiful! It seems to have an inquisitive look as well. Now, if it stayed that size I would love to have one around, but I don’t think I would feel so confident when it gets to 18 foot. Especially as it would be 18 foot of mostly muscle.
Not my thing!
Mae West! Oh, of course, she’s a real "life preserver"! / Joe
Not really my thing either!
And that was a good wordplay, Joe.
That is one beautiful snake – I don’t think I’d mind too much having the chance to handle one this size, the patterning on his skin is exquisite (the snake not Arun – although I’m sure he has exquisite skin too!).
Thanks Tracy. Many snakes have amazing skins not just in terms of colour and patterns but also touch. Not slimy as people imagine but soft and silky.
very nice…
I touched snakes twice in my life !
that’s a nice snake
Thanks Corgiflore. We are alike as far as snake touching is concerned!
Thanks canaconamen.
He’s so cute — I love holding snakes, their skin feels so smooth and textured.
Thanks Nex Ninek for returning. You are right. Most people don’t know that snakes do not feel slimy at all and are actually nice to touch..
Just wanted to post a comment letting you know that this is the subspecies Python molarus bivittatus, the Burmese Rock Python. They and the Indian Rock Python are very similar, some people argue that they are the same, but the community at large accepts that they are two subspecies, separated on the continient, or maybe even inter-breeding. It’s all up in the air. The "true" Indian Rock Pythons main difference is the triangle on top of their head– it’s solid, as opposed to the faded triangle on the Burmese.
You’d be one lucky and potential rich guy to get Indians to breed in captivity. Or to have one period.
Thanks Shane Glass for the info. Are you sure the triangle does not develop later? Because this one is bred in a reptile park and they told me it is an Indian Rock Python.
I’ll discuss with them on my next visit.
nice snake
