baby food–: How much baby food am I supposed to feed my baby per day?
I have a seven month old baby and the doctor recently put him on baby food. We’ve been feeding him a 4 oz jar of food every day. Is that too much? Not enough? Or is that about right? If so, should I feed him the whole jar at once or half in the morning and half at night? Or a third of the jar three times a day? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is only 1 person who knows the exact amt the baby should eat, and that is the baby. Otherwise, none of our ancestors would have survived without the knowledge of modern dieticians.

Unless he has some kind of disorder and loses or gains a lot of weight, but that is very rare.

Don’t force food on him, don’t withhold food if he eats a lot. Go with the flow.

Ask your child’s pediatrician. Even then he may be off, just remember that he’ll eat when he’s hungry.

In my opinion you should focus on your baby cues. They are pretty smart about managing their own food amounts if you let them. If your baby is hungry, he will ask for food. He will show interest in food, extend his hand, suck on his thumb, put his fingers in his mouth, cry in a slightly shrill voice. Every baby has a different way to let mommy know that he is hungry. So do not worry about feeding him too little, believe me you would know when that happens.

Also, look for cues to stop feeding. Sometimes they shake their head, shake their hand to say “no”, show disinterest in food by not opening their mouth. Never force feed because they can throw up, get sick with indigestion, get stomach ache and gain excessive weight. Slowly and gradually you will learn to communicate with your precious little prince.

I would say offer a wide range of food on regular intervels. If he is hungry he will show interest and eat, if not, wait for an hour and offer again. They have small tummies so small frequent meals are the best.

feed him til he’s full Introduce one new food a week and look for any reaction to it, to make sure he isn’t allergic to it.

I started baby food at 6 months ( just recently) and was told to start with one baby food a day and gradually go up to 2 a day and then 3 a day (for breakfast, lunch, dinner)

I’m giving my daughter 4oz baby oatmeal in the morning (I wash and use the baby food jars so I know I’m getting the same amount) and then a jar of baby food in the afternoon.

Formula inbetween feedings when she’s hungry.

Q&A–: How much baby food is the right amount?
My 8 month old daughter is eating stage 2 baby foods. I have looked in my books for specific amounts on how much to feed her but the books only say take out only enough for what you will use. With a 4 oz jar I take out 10-15 baby spoonfuls of food which is about 1/2 the jar and then give her formula after wards. She seems happy and full and is gaining weight so I must be doing something right. Any suggestions from the moms here.

For any child they will eat untill they are full and if they do not eat they will not starve. I would continue to do as you are untill she lets you know its not enough. Every child is different as to what amount they can eat and what makes them full. That is why no one really can tell you how much to feed. As for the bottle your dr can give you an mount your child should be intaking during the day and you can split that amount up so that you at least know if your giving her too much formula. If you are told to cut back on formula or give her more then you adjust the food untill she is a happy camper. Good luck,.

Do what you are doing now. You say that you are taking 10 – 15 baby spoonfuls out (half the 4 oz. jar) and then giving the formula afterwards. Since she seems happy and gaining weight (I assume healthy weight), then you are doing good and right. That is usually what pediatricians say, dietitians and nutritionists for babies say, and I also go on experience on if it is making baby happy and healthy – don’t change a thing!

I found the baby center website to have some really helpful guidelines about how much to feed your baby and it is an age by age guide. The American Academy of Pediatrician’s guide is very similar to this one. nttp://www.babycenter.com/refcap/baby/babyfeeding/1400680.html
Go with your baby’s cues & it sounds like you are doing just that since your baby seems happy and full. She will let you know if you are not feeding her enough or when she is full. I know that can be tough! I never know if I’m feeding my baby too much or not enough, but I try to go by his cues (fussiness, etc.). Soon, your daughter will point to the food when she wants more! Best wishes!

Attended a baby shower this weekend and ate baby food. We had to guess what the flavors were. I actually ate all the apple sauce.

  1. My son just turned 9 months, but at eight months and for the most part he is still eatting this and his doctor said it was fine. 8 onz if forumula when he woke up say 630am then at 830am he would have a piece of toast/pancke/waffle/(any type of bread for the grain) and a 4oz can of diced fruit in light syup and some juice. Then at lunch time between 1130-1230 he would eat 1/3 cup of baby cereal with a # 3 fruit and some type of finger food like 2 of those wagon wheel treats and some juice. Then aboout 330 after nap time he would eat a stick of string cheese and juice. Then dinner time he eats # 2 meat, # 3 veggie, and a 4 oz of apple sauce and 2 animal cookies(This is his special treat he gets and he loves them) and some juice. Our ped doctor told us that by the time he was 9 months he should be eatting lots of regular people food and he is so we are almost at the point of stopping baby food for the most part and since he has been cutting teeth he wants more food he can chew. Our doctor also said that by 8-9 months if they are drinking 10-12 oz of fourmula a day they should be fine if they are drinking juice or water thoughout the day and he is drink about 9 oz of juice mixed with water and then just water. IT also depends on how big your child is and how active your child is my son was born 9 lb and 6.6oz so he has always eatten a lot. He is also super active for a 9month old which makes a big difference and we just went to the doctor monday and he is not over weight for what he eats. Hope this helps.
