My daughter is going to be 6 months very shortly. And i want the mom’s takes on how much to start her on.. and what kinds are best to start her on. I have had her on cereal for 2 months now due to her low weight. I would really appreciate a menu i guess you could say to start her off. I dont want to give her the wrong things. I know you shouldn’t give them alot of fruit. And where does the cereal fit in… ?? Just in the morning? Someone help

When my son was that age, I would give him a bowl of cereal and then one jar of a fruit or vegetable…. he LOVED sweet potatoes. I did this for all his meals, then I cut down the cereal when he got a bit bigger and was doing 1 jar of meat baby food (smells so nasty) and 1 jar of fruit/vegetable.

I used to feed cereal at any time of the day. You make up the recommended amount for her & give her as much as she needs. There is a lot of baby food out there, it’s just a matter of trying her on some & see what she likes or dislikes.

well mine also just turned 6 months 1 week ago, I had him on cereal since 4 months, and doctor told me to start him on fruit, banana, apple and pear. and after about 10 days on veggies. I give him the cereal at 11am, and the fruit at 5pm.

I got this “menu” from my local department of health. Try all cereals in this order….rice, oatmeal, barley (all single grain) then multi-grain cereal. Then orange stage 1 vegetables, then green stage 1 veggies, then stage 1 fruits. They said to give each new food (one at a time) 3-5 days to make sure no allegries are present. I was told to keep feeding (formula or milk) and add the “solids”. 1-2 tablespoons cereal for breakfast, 1-2 tablespoons veggies for lunch, 1-2 tablespoons cereal and 2-3 tablespoons veggies/fruits for dinner. Remember this is just a guideline…follow your baby cues! Good luck!

Keep her on the cereal until she is one. Add one fruit/veg at a time. I give my 8 month old 2 jars of fruit and one jar of vegs a day as well as a bowl of oatmeal.

I gave my son cereal in the morning and at night to help him stay full throughout the night. As far as baby food, I just did one jar of stage 1 around dinner time. I would start with veggies and give the same thing 3-4 days in a row so you can watch out for food allergies. I did this with all the veggies and fruits. I did not go to stage 2 until I saw that he was wanted more than just 1 jar per feeding. Then I did a veggie and a fruit/dessert of stage 2. My son just turned a year a couple of weeks ago and is still on stage 2 foods. He won’t eat many stage 3 foods but we are letting him try table foods.

Since your daughter has been eating cereal for such a long period of time, You can start to mix a fruit into the cereal such as bananas, apples, or peaches; his will get her use to a new flavor of foods. You can also mix a veggie but my doctor told me to start with fruit. Once your baby is use to eating the cereal mixed with a fruit or veggie, you can start giving her them separate. Cereal seems best in the morning, then you could give her a veggie for lunch or dinner. Don’t forget to wait 3-5 days before introducing a new food. Once she gets use to eating 2 meals a day, you could probably start her on the meats they make because she is old enough for them. Then she could have cereal for breakfast with fruit, lunch could be a veggie and dinner could be some sort of meat. Consult your doctor for more information!

I believe they are for up to 12 months. Myself, I would not feed a baby baby food if they could eat real food without problems. My only exception to this would be/ will be fruits.

If he eats it and likes it and it works for you, it’s fine. If you want something convenient that you don’t have to make and has all the stuff in it he needs, but think he shouldn’t have stage 3 foods anymore, try Gerber Graduates Li’l Entrees.
Answer by ay!
I am sure you will get a variety of answers depending on everyone’s own personal opinions, but here is my opinion: Stage 3 baby foods are real foods, only ground up smaller to make it easier for babies, so it still has the same nutritional value. My son in a year old I give him these things made by gerber called lil’ entrees when i am running short on time to cook something, and I always make sure I have one in my diaper bag when going out to eat, because just as you say, there is not always something on the menu that he can have and I dont have to worry that he will struggle with it. The lil entrees are great and it says on the box from about 12 months, so going by that I say no your son is not too old for baby food. I even buy the baby jars on fruit mixtures for my son still as a little something special at the end of supper, because he likes them. Also in the canned fruit isle you can get packaged fruit that little fingers can easily nibble on, and they travel well in diaper bags as well.
hope this helps!

My daughter is 13 months and still eats baby food, so no, I don’t think your son is to old for them. The only reason I give my daughter baby food is because she is such a picky eater, she will take bites of real food and then she is done with it but if I give her stage 3 she will eat the whole jar. I also give her the fruits and vegetables to because they are good for her. I would encourage table food but baby food is good to. And I know what you mean when you are out and don’t really have time to fix something because you have a hungry baby!!!
