baby food brands–: What brands baby food could be found in Japan?
I’m going back to Japan and I was wondering if I could find the brands baby food my baby ’s using now, and what brands baby food are sold in Japan?

Major baby food brands in Japan are:
Meiji and Wakodo.
You may also find Pigeon, Beanstark Snow (Yukijirushi), Morinaga, Quepie, Ezaki Glico.
They’re all Japanese manufactures, and I don’t think you’ll find the US (or any non-Japanese) brand on the shelf of Japanese stores.

Wakodo has the license agreement with Gerber USA, and it sells a dozen or so Gerber Organic brand of baby food (beside Wakodo’s own brand lines), but the content is modified to suit the taste preference of Japanese babies. So, they are not exactly the same as US counterparts.

Japanese FDA permit process makes it difficult for any US baby food manufactures to enter into Japanese market without modifying their products.

Sorry to disappoint you.

But, there may be an import food store that may sell US baby food.

Alex is right, just coming on here to say so because the thumbs down can cause confusion.

You might be able to buy foreign baby foods by mail order, but the cost would be ridiculous.

All the baby foods here are Japanese, with Japanese style ingredients and recipes. They don’t sell baby cereal though, which may or may not bother you depending on how old your baby is. (They sell some nasty stuff which is supposed to end up tasting like that tasteless rice soup you get when you’re too ill to get anything better.)

Look at ingredients. They all seem pretty much the same. For the most part, they should really just be the fruit or vegetable and water. Some will contain asorbic acid, and that is just to stop the colour change in some fruits and vegetables. Bananas are the only one off the top of my head I can think of that usually have it in them.
At about 7 months, we started making our own food. It’s easy, but not always cheaper. Peaches, for example, can be expensive to make. If your interested, try with bananas first. Just mash them up, or put them into a Magic Bullet or something similar. Add water as needed. You can freeze them in ice cube trays. Then pop them out and keep them in ziplock bags for up to about 3 months.
Good luck!

I like beechnut, and my daughter seems to prefer it. Read the ingredient label, that is the main concern.

I will say – I’ve had problems with Gerber’s stage one having chunks in it before, and never a problem with Beechnut…. so, there you go, expensive isn’t always better. Earth’s Best is all organic, if you wanted to go that route, at a good price, and you can get them online, as well, in bulk where the price works out nicely.

I think all the baby brands are basically the same ..prices are different but ingredients are similar..We will be making our own when the time comes..that way we know what is really in the food…

Answer by Pinkadot
Mostly price.

IF you look at the ingredients, they are all pretty much the same – in a pregnancy book I read, it stated that all formulas have to have certain things, according to FDA standards, so it really is a personal preference. They have to have minimums of certain things. Some are made with no iron or less iron or made of soy or whatever, but pretty much all have right around the same vitamins and minerals.

Almost all the non organic brands like gerber and beechnut are the same.

Just an FYI. They have fillers, and they contain up to or more than 16 pesticides. Gerber even packages their food in plastic containers that contain BPA, the chemical in baby bottles that has been taken off the market.

Give Earth’s Best or O Organic brand a try. It’s not that much more money, but it tastes so much better, fresh tasting even, and contains no harmful chemicals.

I prefer Gerber or Heinz. I bought Beech Nut once, and i couldn’t stand the smell. Don’t know how the hec my daughter ate it. (no it wasn’t bad)

But they are probably the same in ingredients, but price and taste (imo) is the difference.

Answer by jcox
I actually prefered Beech-Nut over Gerber. I bought only Beech Nut and Earth’s Best for my babies. With my third though they came out with Gerber Naturals… so I bought my son some of these. The regular Gerber had more aditives than Beech Nut. Earth’s Best is organic baby food… it is all natural.
