Question–: When should my 9 month old get baby food vs bottle only for lunch?
My baby is 9 months old. She is currently eating solids (baby food) plus a small bottle of formula for breakfast and dinner. Her lunch is bottle only. She also gets a bottle before bedtime. When do I need to start giving her baby food for lunch as well? I love the lunch bottle b/c it’s so easy and she likes it, but I’m not sure if she needs to switch over now or if I should have already done that or what?
The following is the answer: (Hint: The answer is not necessarily.)

My son is 7 months and hes on 3 meals a day but all babies are different so i wouldnt worry. Take her lead im sure she’ll let you know when shes hungry for more solids. Maybe you could start giving her a small lunch along with her usual bottle and take it from there.

You should lower the amount of formula/milk your giving her at lunch and give her a small jar of baby food as well. She needs the nutrients at this age. Though if she were still hungry after the bottle she would let you know. You need to get her use to have three meals a day now. This will also help when trying to take her off the bottle.

You can up her solids to 3 meals a day at any point. Most babies are eating 3 solid meals by this point (9 months). However, you shouldn’t cut back more on her formula until she is 12 months (she should be getting at least 20 oz now). And nutritionally speaking, as long as she is getting the formula she is fine. My dd is 8 1/2 months and is only getting 2 meals of solids a day, and since we are both happy with that, I’m not worried about it. I think by you do need to introduce lunch by 12 months, if you start transitioning off formula at that point.
EDIT – She does not NEED solids now, formula is still her primary and best nutrition until 12 months. It is great for her to be praticing with solids and learning to accept them now, but there is no reason to push them.

I didn’t use it. My pediatrician said not to use it because it could lead to overeating.
However, there may be legitimate reasons to use it. Discuss it with your pediatrician.

It’s funny that you ask this. My mom and I were recently talking and she said that when I was little they use to make nipples to put on glass baby food jars so they could suck it out. So no I do not think it’s stupid. My mom said that it was really convenient when she was out with me and I was hungry!

If your baby can’t eat via spoon or hands then your baby is not ready for solid foods. it would be basically force feeding your baby. it’s lazinss and can lead to obesity and diabetes.
Your baby spits food out because she is not ready for foods. the AAP recommends waitint until about 6 months old, or around the time they loose their tongue thrust reflex which is a protective mechanism. Your baby obviously still has this

She isn’t spitting the food out, her tongue reflux that pushes anything but bottles/the boob out hasn’t gone away yet..meaning she is not ready for solids. When she’s ready for solids, she will eat off the spoon until then don’t try the bottle.
