Generally pediatricians tell you at about 4 months as long as your baby hasnt had any problems (like my youngest two have eczema & real sensitive skin & when theyve already had that at such a young age they are more likely to develop food allergies if you start baby food too soon - they didnt start baby food til 6 months)
Also I say let your child tell you when they are ready my oldest daughter ( i have 4 children) started baby food at 2 months because she would drink a full 9 oz bottle of formula with rice cereal in it and still be hungry so i started her on baby food cuz she needed more - my pediatrician argued this with me but when you are the childs caretaker everyday you know what your baby needs & you should go with what you think is right.
My oldest is now 6 years old & she is still a very big eater (for example she can eat an entire can of ravioli by herself & still want something to snack on as soon as she is done.) And no she is not over weight she is skinny.

6 months. Start with cereal. Then move on to fruits and vegetables. Introduce meat into diet later.
Keep giving your baby Vitamin D if you're still breastfeeding, even if you're giving him baby food.

Depends on the child. In a natural development cycle, which is preferable, the child will show an interest in eating what you do, usually at around 3-6 months. When they are ready they will try and grab your food, with mouth or hands, in order to eat it.
Feed them those things you are eating that are most palatable to the infant, according to their ability to chew. The fresher, more wholesome (not refined), e.g. whole grains, beans, fruit, the more nutrient rich the foods will tend to be. The better fed the child, the fewer behavioral, and developmental problems will occur.
Obviously you should eat wholesome, nutritious food, or else your child will be unlikely to thru their life, no matter how hard you encourage a different diet than your own. An upbringing that is courteous, without being placating, is also necessary for good health; whether from parent or mentor.
Human teeth and digestion are oriented towards whole seeds (grain, beans, seeds, and nuts), and fruits (anything with seeding for new plants inside the fibrous "fruit") which include carrots, potatos, tomatos, cucumber, peppers, ect.
The canine teeth are for cracking shells and the like, not meat like carnivores, as the animals are designed for tearing flesh, but ours are more suited to punching thru and cracking hard, brittle, shells.
Flowers like broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus ect, and leafy greens like spinach, kale, and lettuces; as well as meats should be used to supplement deficiencies according to irregular cravings.
If cravings become very common for meats, leafy/flowery vegetables, or refined food, disease is occurring, and should be examined before the symptoms impair well being.
Whenever possible mother's milk is best for the development of all mammals, including humans.

I was always told 4-6 months but now I am struggling with a 13 yo with some serious food allergies. I am not claiming to be an expert but I have been doing a lot of reading and research regarding exactly what food does to the body. It is amazing the way we are created. Not only in my reading but in my observations of children- those who are breast fed only until one year old are a LOT healthier, smarter and have a lot less issues with food than those who are started on solid foods at 4-6 months. Though they may seem ready on the outside, babies only have one enzyme (to break down foods) until they are about 8-12 months old. When they are fed things that their bodies cannot properly break down, this does damage to the intestines and they cannot properly absorb nutrients and food allergies ande intolerances become an issue. If your baby startsteething early, try some foods that contain enzymes that will help them to break down and wont be so difficult for the baby to digest such as mashed avacado or egg yolks. Once baby is a year old and those teeth are coming in, he/ she should be able to eat just about anything- just be sure to introduce one food at a time and stay away from high allery foods such as nuts and honey until he/ she is about three years old.
